Creating a character pageEdit

Creating a page for your character is a simple process, made easier by the custom templates stored on the wiki, and created especially.

The first step is to select the 'ADD PAGE' link from the front page of the wiki. This will open a popup window, allowing you to choose a 'standard page' or a 'blank page'.
For creating a new characters' page, select 'Blank Page'

Formatting your new pageEdit

Once the page has loaded, and you have a blank page with the edit bar at the top, go to the extreme right of the bar. There is a button marked 'Source'. Click this, and paste the following information into the window:

===Recent Activity===
==Combat Gear==
===Significant Other===
===Close Friends===
==Related Links==

This will automatically generate your page format. Click the Source button again, and you can then edit it as normal in the WYSIWYG editor.

Adding the Character InfoboxEdit

The second component to the character page is the infobox, which is a quick-glance reference to a character, containing the summed up info on that character. To add one, the process is quite simple.

Insert a new line at the very top of the page, above the 'History' line, and then go back to the Insert box. From here, go to the insert drop-down tab, and select other Othertemplate/Magicword.

Then click the grey bar in the bottom right of the screen.

When it comes up with the search bar, type the words Template:Infobox Character.

Press the 'Insert' button, and you'll then have a screen where you can enter the details directly into the infobox, and add a picture if you want to as well. You will first have to upload your picture from the Add Photo link on the main page. Then put the text File:Picturename.format. This will then insert the picture you have chosen into the Infobox. You can also force it to display at any size using the box below.
You can preview this at any time, and then save it to add it to the page.

Adding CategoriesEdit

It's also important to make sure your new page shows up in the right category on the Wiki, so it can be found and read. To do this, click the green box titled 'Add Category', type in the words: Characters, then press Enter - this will add one category to the page.
Other categories can be added as appropriate - for example, Player Characters, is a category, as is NPCs, and Thunderbolt Black. Add as many as are appropriate, and then save.

Linking to Your CharacterEdit

Once your character page is complete, you can add links to it from other pages using the editing toolbar's "Add Link" button. Please limit links to your character page to relevant pages, such as the Black Knights page if they are a member of that Squadron. Irrelevant links to character pages will be considered spam.

Likewise, do not forget to set up links from your character to other pages - for example, from their page to the Squadron page, or to their Aircrafts' page.

Most characters go by more than one name, so once you have created a character page it is a good idea to set up a few redirects. For example, St Helen's article is located on the "St. Helen Carter" page; if left alone, readers who search for "St. Helen" or type "Razorblade" into the address bar will be sent to an empty page. To fix this, create new pages for your character's alter egos and enter the following code on the first line:

#redirect [[PAGE TAG]]

For example, if I want "Razorblade" to redirect to "St Helen Carter", where her character page is located, I would type:

#redirect St Helen Carter

Anyone who navigates onto the "Razorblade" page will now be redirected to "St Helen Carter" - try it out! Note that the first word of a page tag is not case sensitive, but each subsequent word is. "Razorblade" and "razorblade" both go to the same page, but "St Helen Carter" and "St helen carter" are two different pages, and you will have to set up redirects for each. Wikia changes spaces to underscores automatically, so no need to worry about those.
